Madinah Munawarrah (“the illuminated city”) positions as the second most holiest spot in Islam after Makkah. The city offered shelter to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and the early Muslims upon their movement from Makkah and where lies the entombment spot of the Prophet (ﷺ).
Al Madinah is home to three essential mosques in Islam. The most well known, Masjid AlNabawi – the Prophet’s Mosque was based on the site of his home. Prophet Muhammad and his initial two Caliphs – Abu Bakar and Umar were covered under the Green Dome of this mosque. Masjid Quba was the main mosque of Islam and Masjid AlQiblatain and where the qiblah was changed to Makkah.
